The cinema room at Grey Gables has an impressive 65 inch screen and Cambridge Audio speakers. There is also a gorgeous Mah Jong sofa from Roche Bobois creating the ultimate chill-out space to watch your choice of film in comfort. There is a kitchen with stone work surfaces and quality appliances by Gaggenau. Beautiful pieces of Ralph Lauren, Andrew Martin and Van Thiel furniture make the most important room in the house a joy to be in! This kitchen is fully equipped with all the latest mod-cons including a ‘Quooker’ tap and three cookers which is enough for even the keenest cook. The adjacent breakfast area has a rustic green oak dining table and benches, and sitting here you can enjoy the view to the lake.
The bedrooms at Grey Gables have floor to ceiling windows and four of the bedrooms have uninterrupted views of Lake Windermere. Two bedrooms have oval baths overlooking Lake Windermere, so you can have a soak whilst admiring a beautiful view. Two of the bedrooms have ladders leading to spacious mezzanine ‘chill out’ areas, with comfy cushions. All of the bathrooms have Mandarin Stone walls and enormous Drench showers.
The grounds extend to an acre of gardens surrounding the Grey Gables house. The gardens are beautifully planted with native grasses and shrubs. The Lawns at the front and back of the house lead down to the lake. There is plenty of space outside for a game of rounders or badminton. The jetty is the perfect place to tie up a kayak or two and gives direct access to the water.
The village of Windermere grew around the Windermere train station, about a mile and a half from the lake. The village was originally called Birthwaite, but the railway company decided to call the station after the lake. Launches an Steamers operate from Bowness Bay to Waterhead at Ambleside, and Lakeside at the southern end. At the southern end of the lake is a pier, the Aquarium of the Lakes and the lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway
