Discover Northeastern Brazil’s Highlights

“Gems of Northeast Brazil –  Discover northeastern Brazil’s highlights from the colonial splendours of Salvador and Olinda to the ultimate end-of-the-road beach hang-out of Jericoacoara, and finishing with the breathtaking beaches and scuba diving on the island of Fernando de Noronha” ~ Scott Dunn

This stunning adventure to Northeast Brazil begins in the wonderful colonial city of Salvador, the capital of Bahia and home to gorgeous cobbled streets and churches, great food, capoeira and sizzling music. Enjoy 3 nights here at the stylish Villa Bahia in the heart of the Old Town.

Fly up to Fortaleza and be driven by 4WD to Jericoacoara for 4 nights at the ultra-chic Chili Beach Hotel. Set amongst huge dunes with streets of sand, Jericoacoara has a near mythical status among the hippies who ’discovered’ it, and offers unbelievable beaches, some of the world’s best kite-surfing conditions, dune buggy rides, horse riding and much more.

Next comes Olinda, one of Brazil’s colonial jewels, set overlooking the blue Atlantic Ocean, and a haven of writers, artists and musicians. Wander the cobbled streets and soak up the unique atmosphere while staying at Pousada do Amparo for 2 nights.

Finally fly out to Fernando de Noronha, a spectacular volcanic island archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean that offers the best diving and snorkelling in Brazil, with large schools of spinner dolphins being frequent visitors. For those who don’t dive, the beaches here regularly top the polls of best Brazilian beach with breathtaking golden sands lapped by the clearest turquoise water. We have suggested 4 nights staying at Pousada Ze Maria.

This is a year-round itinerary, but July to January is the best time of year. If travelling over Christmas/New Year or over Carnival, be sure to book as far in advance as possible, as space at this time is severely restricted.
