Announcing the new sensational Benguerra Island
“andBeyond’s new sensational Benguerra Island with the rebirth of Benguerra’s first lodge on 1 June has seen this exquisite lodge become the most exclusive destination in the Bazaruto Archipelago.”
Buengerra Island prides itself with having the island’s best location. Situated alongside a permanent deep water channel, the generously sized guest rooms peep out from among the boughs of a tropical forest, offering direct views onto the beach. With a distinct nod to both Africa and the Mozambican coastline’s Portuguese heritage you can expect light and airy casinhas and cabanas, as well as a spacious family suite. In keeping with the trend for multi-generational travel, the lodge’s private villa has been redesigned as the Casa de Familia, a three-bedroom suite ideal for families.
While the island is fringed with golden, sandy beaches, its interior is a lush patchwork of forests, wetlands and fresh water lakes. Horse riding trips and island expeditions explore both the coastline and the interior of the island, uncovering traditional culture at the local village and climbing soaring sand dunes.
Activities at the new sensational Benguerra Island
The second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, Benguerra offers exceptional marine life and an abundance of island adventures. Characterised by its towering sand dunes, inland lakes and idyllic beaches, Benguerra was declared a National Park in 1971.
It is home to over 140 bird species and the pristine waters surrounding the island, as well as the entire archipelago, are home to the rare dugong and one of the most pristine coral reefs in the world. Guests visiting the island can awaken to the sounds of fishermen trading their daily catch from their traditional sailing dhows and embark on a series of adventures, including dhow cruises, diving, snorkelling and exhilarating catch-and-release deep-sea fishing.
